| Schachtner Knocks Wels Out
Rookie power forward Mike Schachtner shot the..
.. lights out, going 11-14 from the field and 5-7 from behind the 3-point arc, to lead the Kapfenberg Bulls to a 76-72 upset win over first place Wels, knocking them out of the top spot in the first division Austria Bundesliga. Schachtner, the 6’9 shooter from Wisconsin-Green Bay, had game high scoring honors with 29 points and 5 boards. The 29 points was a season/career high for Schachtner (his previous high game was 28 points in the season opener against Gmunden) and this was the fourth time this season that Mike made six 3-pointers in a game (again, his personal best as a professional). He is now 14th leading scorer in Austria, averaging 16.4 ppg. Mike has the top 3-point field goal percentage in Austria at 51.6% (he has made 33 of 64 from behind the arc). Schachtner is also shooting 64.9% for 2-point shots and he is 83.3% from the free throw line. The win, their third consecutive victory, elevated Kapfenberg to 5th in the Bundesliga with a 12-5 record, while Wels is now in second with a 14-3 mark (Furstenfeld is the top team in Austria at 15-2). Schachtner had a storied college career at Green Bay, which included 4 years as a starter (and averaging double-figures in each of those respective seasons). He finished up as the school’s #5 career scorer, shot 43% from 3 for his NCAA career, was awarded All-Horizon League honors twice and was a 3-time Academic All-American. The Wisconsin farmboy was equally impressive with his play at this past summer’s Court Side Pro Camp in Las Vegas.
